The substitution of solvents with the fatty acid esters of vegetable oilsMichel Gérin, Denis Bégin, Fatim Diallo / Université de Montréal

0099-7420 : Completed

More and more companies are attempting to replace organic solvents due to their potential for flammability, toxicity and negative effects on the environment. It is in this context that replacement products are appearing on the market. The authors produced a knowledge review on the fatty acid methyl esters (FAME) derived from vegetable oils. They took into consideration the occupational health and safety, environmental, and technical aspects necessary in evaluating their use.

The IRSST previously published nine knowledge reviews by the same authors on other substitution products. These summaries are mainly intended for industrial hygienists, occupational health physicians, and other occupational health and safety specialists. Companies can refer to them in carrying out a substitution project.
