Statistical study of occupational safety problems associated with manpower aging in health and social services, provincial public administration and municipal administration sectors Abstract According to a recent CSST study, the aging of the workforce in sectors such as health and social services and provincial and municipal administration is associated with an increase in the severity of injury and a decrease in the incidence and variety of accidents. The populations studied here consisted of groups of workers of similar age and occupation in sectors in which the aging of the workforce poses a safety problem. Age-dependent changes in accident indicators (incidence, duration of absence and compensation cost) were observed. A ten-year retrospective analysis of the effect of aging on injury was also performed. The results of this project, and especially the identification of the type of accidents and injuries characteristic of an aging workforce and of the populations for which age is a risk factor, helped sectoral associations improve the effectiveness of their prevention strategies.
