0098-0220 : Completed

Many injuries involving the lower limbs occur during cleaning or stripping operations involving the use of high- or very-high-pressure water jets. This project, undertaken at the request of the joint sectoral association for the transportation and warehousing sector, will analyse occupational accidents, review the available literature on this subject, observe work practices, and ultimately, establish selection criteria for work boots capable of reducing the number and severity of injuries to the lower limbs. Currently available boots that appear to best satisfy the criteria will be identified. Other results of this project include identification of the most important risk factors associated with the use of high- and very-high-pressure water jets and formulation of recommendations concerning other safety issues for this type of work.
