Abstract

Impact noise is present in many workplaces. An accessible guide was developed which describes the physical characteristics of fifteen types of industrial impact noise, and details the technical specifications and performance required in measurement devices used to evaluate occupational exposure to impact noise.

The guide also suggests a measurement protocol which allows occupational exposure to impact noise to be effectively measured with recently available noise measurement devices in a manner consistent with current Québec regulations. This information will help industrial hygienists evaluate the hazards faced by exposed workers.
