Safety problems among truck drivers Abstract This study summarizes current knowledge concerning safety problems associated with truck-driving, a high-risk occupation in Québec. On the basis of an analysis of CSST (Commission de la santé et de la sécurité du travail du Québec, Québec Occupational Health and Safety Commission) accident statistics, and a review of the scientific literature, the risk factors associated with each of the five principal truck-driving tasks (driving, handling, tarping, verification/maintenance/repair, and accessing various sections of the vehicle) were characterized.Recommendations concerning research and intervention strategies for the improvement of the safety of truck drivers were formulated. The principal recommendations deal with vehicle and tool design, personal protective equipment, work practices, and information and training programs.
