Protective Gloves: Study on the Resistance of Gloves to Multiple Mechanical AggressorsJaime Lara, Denis Turcot, Chantal Tellier / IRSST
Toan Vu-Khanh / Université de Sherbrooke

0099-1010 : Completed

Wearing protective gloves adapted to the type of hazard involved and the type of work carried out can help reduce hand injuries, which represent about 20% of all injuries compensated by the CSST. Cuts, scratches and pricks are common in workplaces where metal parts, glass or tools are handled. Research conducted by the IRSST has already shown that gloves that protect against cuts do not necessarily protect against pricks, and vice versa. This time, the goal is to develop knowledge about rupture mechanisms. These new data will help manufacturers improve the resistance of gloves to complicated mechanical risks and develop new, more versatile and more comfortable materials. Laboratory tests conducted with the cooperation of glove and material manufacturers will then be validated through workplace testing, using an approach successfully applied in other projects.
