Medical examination of respirator user

Abstract

At the CSST’s request, the IRSST formed an ad hoc scientific committee to formulate an opinion on the medical assessment of users of respiratory protection and to determine the approach that would offer the best possibilities of applicability and efficiency in the Québec context. The primary objective, of course, was to make it easier to choose a respiratory protective device adapted to the user.
The committee members gave their opinions on three aspects of this issue, which are summarized in the report: the establishment of medical assessment principles; the development of a decisional algorithm based on these principles; and the description of a functional test that supports the application of the algorithm. This document will be integrated into the Guide des appareils de protection respiratoires utilisés au Québec (Guide on the respiratory protection used in Québec) referred to in the Regulation respecting occupational health and safety.
