Formaldehyde levels in the wood laminate, plywood, and fibreboard sectors in Québec Abstract Formaldehyde is a widely-recognized eye, nose, and respiratory tract irritant; skin contact can lead to irritant dermatitis, and in some cases, allergic eczema. Formaldehyde exposure in the plywood and fibreboard sectors derives from resins used to glue wood laminates, and coat wood particles and shavings, respectively. The goal of this project was the development of an analytical strategy for formaldehyde, adapted to the context of the wood laminate sector. The protocol developed draws upon the intervention strategy established by Institute’s Laboratory Section, and offers improved quantification and identification of sources of exposure. This, in turn, facilitates the implementation of corrective measures at emission sources.
