Development of an intervention programme and task-analysis tools for the prevention of back problems in the metal products sector Abstract The Joint Sectoral Association, Metal and Electrical Goods Fabrication Sector requested the IRSST to develop an intervention programme and task-analysis tools to help companies producing metal products to reduce back problems suffered by workers performing non-repetitive tasks. In this pilot project, existing intervention programmes and analytical tools for back problems will be reviewed, and general principles applicable to highly variable tasks identified. In addition, information on the main characteristics of work in this sector will be collected through videotaped workplace observations. This data will be used to establish an intervention programme and analytical tools reflecting the specific needs of this sector. The programme and tools will be implemented and evaluated in several companies.
