Project IRSST

Design of a test stand used to standardize protective clothing classification according to cuttin resistanceSerge Massé, Jaime Lara, Christian Sirard, Denis Turcot / IRSST

0094-0660 : Completed

An IRSST team has developed a method for evaluating the resistance to laceration of protective clothing, particularly of gloves used in the industry, and produced a prototype test bed. The results of several hundred tests indicate that a classification system for protective clothing's resistance to laceration can in fact be developed. Several standardization agencies and manufacturers are interested in this simple and reliable method. However, although effective, the existing test bed is a prototype developed for research purposes, and is unsuited to use for standardization purposes. This project therefore designed a test bed suitable for standardization purposes, after systematic analysis of the existing prototype's operation. Six test beds were produced by an outside manufacturer.
