Comparison of forestry accidents in Québec and Sweden Abstract Forestry operations in Québec bear many similarities to those in Sweden, where there is a long tradition of research in accident prevention in the forestry sector, and where occupational accident reports include information concerning the activity the worker was engaged in and the sequence of events leading up to the accident. This report proposes improvements, based on the Swedish model, in the manner in which occupational accident information is gathered in Québec. By adapting the Swedish forestry safety experience to the context of the Québec forestry sector, it was also possible to identify risk factors, and principles for the development of preventive practices. The results of this study were used to expand upon recommendations formulated during previous Institute studies, identify risk factors and preventive measures for future forestry work environments, and develop a simple accident information collection system for use in prevention programs.
