Analysis of hospital accidents involving nursing personnel Abstract This project will document and clarify the mechanisms underlying accidents involving hospital nursing personnel, particularly those related to handling operations, and formulate recommendations aimed at optimizing the organization of prevention activities. In an earlier study, the research group performing this study developed and validated a software package for the collection and analysis of hospital accident data. This study will analyze the data on 944 accidents gathered from three representative hospitals over a one-year period during the validation study. The following information was collected for all the accidents, using the software package's post-accident questionnaire: main characteristics of the population, information on the time and place of the accident, body part injured, length of resulting work absence, and details of the accident. The category of accident, activity and work conditions at the time of the accident, and problems associated with the accident are described by a series of 21 variables. This analysis will provide researchers and those responsible for health and safety with a clear description of accidents involving nursing personnel, and will clarify the mechanisms underlying these accidents. With this information, researchers and health and safety specialists can plan prevention activities and identify new avenues of research.
