Two new apointments at the IRSST

Montreal, August 11, 2003 - The president-CEO of the Institut de recherche Robert-Sauvé en santé et en sécurité du travail (IRSST), Diane Gaudet, is pleased to announce today two new appointments.

Laboratory services and expertise
Management of the Laboratory Services and Expertise (LSE) team has been entrusted to Jacques Lesage, an experienced professional with a master's degree in chemistry who has been working for the IRSST since 1982. In the last twenty years, he has contributed with his LSE colleagues to developing the IRSST's solid reputation in the scientific community by breakthroughs in isocyanates. As LSE director, he heads a team of some thirty people who provide the laboratory reference services required by the CSST and its network. "The LSE's many quality control programs have earned it the highest accreditations and certifications delivered in Canada and the United States and I am convinced that Jacques Lesage has what is needed to maintain and increase the credibility of our laboratories in Québec as well as elsewhere in the world," stated Ms. Gaudet.

Safety Engineering
The Safety Engineering team will now be directed by Paul-Émile Boileau, who has a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering. Mr. Boileau has been working at the IRSST since 1984 where he has made his mark in Noise and Vibration research. In addition to promoting occupational accident prevention through his research work, Mr. Boileau has contributed to the IRSST's international recognition by influencing the adoption of new ISO standards on vibration and mechanical shocks. "Paul-Émile Boileau's many scientific achievements and publications are excellent indicators of the leadership that will inspire the Safety Engineering team, which has an essential role in the OHS network in reducing and eliminating work-related risks," stated Ms. Gaudet.

On behalf of all staff, the IRSST's president and CEO wishes both new directors every success in carrying out their mandates. The new assignments will take effect on August 25th for Mr. Lesage and November 3rd for Mr. Boileau.
