Research leader in the chemical substances and biological agents field
 

Joseph Zayed
Montréal, November 24, 2009 - Professor in the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health at the Université de Montréal, Joseph Zayed has just been named research leader in the chemical substances and biological agents field at the Institut de recherche Robert-Sauvé en santé et en sécurité du travail (IRSST). With a doctorate in public health, specializing in environmental toxicology, and author of numerous scientific publications, Mr. Zayed was also the director of the Centre interuniversitaire de toxicologie from 2001 to 2004 and chair of the expert advisory committee of the Canadian Network of Toxicology Centres in 2003- 2004.
 
Well-known territory
Respected within the scientific community, professor Zayed is in well-known territory at the IRSST for having carried out research work here. As research leader in the chemical substances and biological agents field, his role will mainly consist of proposing orientations in research programming to the Scientific Division and reporting on the evolution in the work in this field. He succeeds Guy Perrault whose mandate will end in December. In announcing this appointment, the IRSST’s president and CEO, Marie Larue, saluted “the arrival of a seasoned scientist whose expertise in toxicology is recognized by his peers.” Taking this opportunity, Ms. Larue thanked chemist Guy Perrault for the work that he has done. On behalf of the personnel, Ms. Larue welcomes Mr. Zayed and wishes him every success in his new duties. He will assume his position on January 5th.
