Montréal, January 5, 2010 - The Institut de recherche Robert-Sauvé en santé et en sécurité du travail (IRSST) and the Workplace Health, Safety and Compensation Commission (WHSCC) of Newfoundland and Labrador have signed a specific agreement with the aim of the realization of a review of the scientific literature on the risks of professional cancer for the shipyard workers.
This agreement comes within the context of a research and expertise partnership that both organizations concluded last October. At the request and expense of the WHSCC, the IRSST will conduct research and provide expert advice on specific topics related to occupational diseases. “The research projects and expertise will allow the IRSST to obtain relevant scientific data and evidence to support the WHSCC in exercising its mandate. For its part, the IRSST will have the opportunity to develop new knowledge that will be beneficial for all those impacted by occupational disease issues,” said Marie Larue, president and CEO of the IRSST.
