Montréal, November 24, 2009 - The Institut de recherche Robert-Sauvé en santé et en sécurité du travail (IRSST) and the Réseau provincial de recherche en adaptation-réadaptation of the Fonds de la recherche en santé du Québec (REPAR/FRSQ) have just entered into a partnership agreement. Through this agreement, the parties will jointly finance the production of knowledge reviews.

Call for proposals
As a first initiative, the IRSST and REPAR/FRSQ are inviting researchers interested in participating in a call for proposals on osteoarthrosis of the knee. The aim of this research project is to carry out a critical analysis of the evidence in the scientific literature on three aspects of the theme: clinical assessment, rehabilitation, and the return to work of workers with osteoarthrosis of the knee. A maximum amount of $120,000 per year can be awarded for a project whose duration must not exceed two years. Researchers have until April 19, 2010, to submit a proposal.

Major adverse health effect
Knee injuries figure among the occupational injuries most compensated by the CSST and can lead to functional limitations for the worker affected. “With this project, researchers and clinicians will have at their disposal a good synthesis of existing evidence and recommendations. The expected results should provide better support for clinicians who do not always have standardized and validated approaches for clinical evaluations, rehabilitation follow-ups, and decisions about a return to work. The results can also be used in clinician training,” explained Marie Larue, president and CEO of the IRSST, and Sylvie Nadeau, director of REPAR/FRSQ, at the launching of the call for proposals.
