Montreal, April 4, 2003 - The Institut de recherche Robert-Sauvé en santé et en sécurité du travail (IRSST) is inviting researchers, scientists and professionals to participate in a poster session at the 2nd Public Forum of the Association of Workers' Compensation Boards of Canada that will be held in Montréal from October 26 - 28.
A forum on prevention for young people
Occupational health and safety for young people is the central theme of this forum which will bring together 700 participants from all provinces of Canada. Every year, tens of thousands of young Canadians from 15 to 24 years of age are work accident victims and several lose their lives. "The prevention programs of workers' compensation boards must be adapted to the young people who are entering the work force and learning a new job. In addition to actions to make people aware of the importance of managing occupational health and safety, we must find solutions together by which prevention can be integrated into various education and training programs so that young people don't see their dreams broken by an unfortunate work-related accident," stated Jacques Lamonde, chairman of the board of directors and chief executive officer of the CSST and president of the IRSST, who sent out a call to researchers and professionals to participate in this event that he is hosting.
A good opportunity
In addition to many presentations, the forum program is offering the participants a poster session. OHS researchers and professionals are being given a golden opportunity to promote their research results and their occupational health and safety programs and initiatives to young people. Whether it is with statistics, studies, strategies or approaches promoting prevention, or even initiatives relating to the theme of the forum, all types of poster projects that present results that can be used to improve occupational health and safety with young people will be considered. Experiences in other fields but whose results can be applied to OHS may also be chosen.
