Abstract

Jackleg drills, very common in the mining industry, produce a level of vibration that can cause hand-arm vibration syndrome in their users. In a previous study, the researchers created a prototype of an antivibration handle for jackleg drills. This handle reduced hand-arm vibration exposure by approximately 50%. The handle prototype was refined and adapted to the mining environment for the purpose of marketing it. To support the development of the antivibration handle, a test bench for evaluating the vibration emissions of jackleg drills under controlled conditions was developed and validated. This test bench evaluates the efficiency of the antivibration handle in relation to its wear as well as follows this evolution.
