Abstract

The therapeutic return to work, an innovative model for managing workers suffering from musculoskeletal disorders, is based on interaction and a consensus being established between numerous stakeholders: the interdisciplinary rehabilitation team, the CSST rehabilitation consultant, the workplace, the worker and the physician. Several studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of comprehensive approaches, but up to now, the decision-making mechanisms that the stakeholders use as a basis for arriving at a consensus were not clearly established. This publication summarizes a research project whose aim was to document, by means of a case study, this particular means of decision-making, and to identify the strategies most likely to promote a successful return to work. It will be useful for partners who want to act in a more effective way in preventing prolonged disabilities, and to reduce the related economic and social costs as well as the loss of quality of life.
